hi there, i threw some ghost shrimp in with hte ruby red peacock, and now what i see is just the tail sticking out of its mouth, can that hurt the fish? you would htikn he would spit it out and bit it in half first haha
it shouldn't hurt him, just make sure he doesn't get choaked. I use to feed huge ghost shrimp to my goldfish and you could see the "feelers" sticking out as he ate them.
Cichlids love to parade around the tank with their food, too. If my oscar goes any length of time without live food, she will swim around with a fish or worm literally half way out of her mouth for up to half an hour, just so happy to show off.
My oscar would do the same thing all the time. Im pretty sure its because cichlids are extremely greedy and it doesnt want anyone else to have the food. Also it means that either the shrimp is too big or the cichlid isnt hungry. And ya, its probably a show off thing too
