Is this a Copodod (sp??)

Hi all...it's been a while since I posted....

Anyway, I was cleaning tanks today and happened across this critter. It's actual size is approximately 1/4" long fully extended. Colouration is white, despite the jpeg image (digital cameras are alway hot - red).

I think it's a copopod (sorry not sure of the spelling)...am I right, or should I be conerned?

It's an amphipod. A good thing.

The former owner of my favorite LFS (since gone to his reward) used to refer to some of these critters as "gammarus shrimp." As a common name, does that ring a bell for anyone?

Gammarus is a genus of amphipod, so it's consistent.
