I was in there just browsing yesterday when I saw two kids looking at the feeder goldfish tank. They had the hood open and I didn't think much of it.
About 2 minutes later I was looking at the mixed cichlid / baby oscar tank and they came over and started opening up the lid. I was thinking to myself "WTF are they doing?" and then I saw about 6 feeder goldfish dropped in and all the fish went crazy as they laughed and went back to get more feeders. I instantly went to the owner and he was ticked off let me tell ya!

White, Chinese (for Slipnottin :D ), Latin, mixed bred, doesn't matter... What did was their actions! ...Horrendous... I would probably ban them from the store, if I owned the store..

Whats it matter the race? I'm not causing a debate and I'm sure Joe wasn't either but honestly, would you have said "two white kids came in"? I'm sorry but I have a big problem with that...

Trouble is that if you banned them they would sue you. Probably the ACLU takes cases like that for free.

They wouldn't be able to sue...they violated store policy, people are barred from entering stores all the time.
Ugh. Sorry to offend anyone, but racism bothers me FAR more than a couple of mischievous children. By a long shot.

I would let them try and sue then...
A serious matter of common sense was blatantly disregarded. There was also a "loss of product" they are now liable for.. ;)
Let's see...... I'm building a case against them right now..

Calm down....I had to step back for a second. I'm not sure it's a racist person behind that comment, but I do think it's a racist comment. Might even have been an innocent thing. None the less, I do feel the comment should be edited. JMO.

wow!
I wasn't meaning to be racist at all, just telling the story how it went and how I remember it. Their skin color was not relevant and I apologize. I am not racist by any means and I will edit it now and I am sorry for any trouble.

I stand on 'banning' the 2 kids. Maybe not though, if their parents visit with them..

I definitely don't want to get a bad reputation around here lol. Whenever I have some free time, I'm always here reading and looking for advice and ideas.
I didn't stick around to see what happened, just told the owner and scurried out of there :p

I agree. And what you did was the right action to take..
Funny how the NEWS on TV gets away with "singling out" colors of people..
Oh well, no further comments needed.. Or this will get yanked into GCC, or worse.. -the digital deleted Twilight Zone..

They should bann them for that but, there just kids so u have to remeber that they could careless about the fish.
I saw this type of thing at the Wal Mart near my house... but instead of two little kids, it was a regular fully-grown guy in who put feeder goldfish in a KOI TANK and was talking about the koi eating using the goldfish. He most likely didn't know jack about fish. Omg people.. even the little kids knew which fish ate feeders.:mad2
Another time I saw this happen was at another walmart, where a little kid went to every tank, opened the top, and put his hands in and tried to grab the fish. Nobody even knows where those hands could have been. I feel sorry for those fish. :shake:

I gave up on Wal-Mart a long time ago....forget them, and try to pretend they dont keep fish and maybe they'll go away like an over rated '80s fad.
Its not wholy the kids fault, parents have responsilities too. Since when was the fish store or petstore responsible for baby sitting people's children? Its a bit off topic, but a girl at one of the lfs here used to work at petland and these parents dropped the kid off there while they went to the hardware store up the street. First the kid harrased the birds, banged on the fish tanks, terrified the rabbits, and finally settled in banging on the glass to one of the puppy pens. He went right through the glass onto the poor puppies, jumped up and ran across the parking lot. This girl chase him down, found him when they caught up to his parents and told them they owed the store a window. They said they weren't there so it wasn't their fault. What the heck hey? I charge $5 an hour for babysitting and that ain't going to change if people leave their kids unattended in my workplace.

Obviosly it is the parents responsibility, and of course there are unfotunately a lot irresponsible parents out there. I've been accused of being a hardcase, but I would gladly press charges on an 8 year old that vandalised a pet store, if the parents refused to take responsibility. I would bet the parents would get real cooperative when charges were pressed. My first thought was what my Dad would have done If I had pulled a stunt like that (and I was ornery enough to do it). I would have worked off the bill, proably at the pet store where the offense occured, and at no more than minimum wage. in addition there would have been some sort of discipline at home. IMHO the reason a lot of kids don't respect the property of others is that they don't understand that hard work equates to dollars, and dollars equate to property. If they are forced to put in time to pay for their mischief they will tend to be less destructive in their future mischief and hopefully gain an understanding of actions= consequences. Mischief is a nomal, healthy part of growing up, disrespecting someone else's property is wrong both occurred in this case. I like to watch Oscars eat feeders, I just pay for my own feeders.
fish eat fish, kids will be kids, get over it, get on with your lives :)
