Use table salt to clean the glass lid on your tank. It works really well, especially if you have hard water that leaves calcium doposits. And there's no danger of harming the fish because you didn't rince it off well enough. I learned to do that when I worked in a restaurant. They used to use salt to clean the coffee pots.
Thank you Boos.......how's that tank coming?

here's another one...
Most people probably already know this, but old credit cards, library cards, and the like are great algae scrapers. They are excellent for removing that tough spot algae.
a wallpaper scraper is a good way to get anything off glass.
i change the blade once a month

Hi DJ. Tanks doing great. I just set up another 10 gallon and split the Co2 between them. It's working great.
And I finally got some riccia, which is being a bit of a challenge, but It growns so fast that I feel like I can make all the mistakes I like with it and still have some left over to play with. Ha!
And speaking of tips. The turkey baster.... that's one of my favorite aquarium tools. What's yours?
Not having an acrylic tank, I'm clueless on how to clean the inside surface. Is that what you use the turkey baster for?
My favorite tool is a pair of mustache scissors. They are small and great for pruning and say sharp, for some reason, forever.
Glad to hear the tank is better. Now keep the dang thing in balance.....don' t make me get the yardstick out!!:p
Too bad I didn't know you needed Riccia. I throw out or give away gobs of the stuff weekly.

The turkey baster..... ah yes, perfect for priming the filter, taking samples out for testing, and for suckin' up those free floating glumps of decayed plant material. I've also used it to suck up baby fish if I want to keep a few.
And I will likely be using it to take out gobs of riccia soon, as well as squirting DJ with it.
:D
