Is it normal for a fish to swim up and down the walls of the aquarium all day long. My fish are new to the tank I'm wondering if this is normal? They look like they dont like it very much in there and are trying to get out. Please help me out. I've fed them and they appear to be eating a little but still, I'm a little worried.

Oh yeah, hello to everyone on the forums, I'm new. I came across this place and it appears to have loads of information. Thanks again.

My experience is limited but I have seen that behavior as well. It seems to improve as the fish become acclimated to the water in the tank. I also read that this behavior is common in schooling fish that are in a tank without enough of their buddies to form a school in which they can feel secure. If it is a schooling fish this book said to have at least 5-6 fish of that same breed together in the tank.

This is normal behavior. My cories did this for about four days before settling in. I'm pretty sure it is not because they want to get out. Most fish jump when they want to escape rather than swim up and down the walls. And some fish (bettas in particular) just seem to jump for the heck of it.

It is normal because I have a bluegill and he does that he doesn't do it that often He did it when I frst put him in my tank
