Never heard of such a product. I would be very skeptical.

I would be extremely skeptical of any product that claims to do what a protein skimmer does. If that was the case, we wouldn't need protein skimmers ;)
I do agree with the "ultra rare" part though - so rare I've never heard of it http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/images/graemlins/lol.gif

It probably does something to adsorb proteins. Not sure why anyone would buy it though. Once you have a skimmer running, all you have to do is clean the collecting cup and occasionally clean the skimmer.
With this product (assuming it works at all):
1. You have to keep replacing it.
2. If you don't replace it frequently, the adsorbed proteins will break down and decrease water quality.
3. It doesn't do anything for aeration or circulation.
yea
Thanks guys it sounded shady to me. But because I'm new to this I thought I'd check it out.
So as long as I keep after my skimmer I should be OK?
Even though it's smaller than recommended by the place where I got my set up? I really don't have much faith in their motives mostly because they didn't recommend a test kit or caging my powerheads. Thank god I found a much more attentive LFS.
