I want the tank to basically be an experiment.

I think if I go with guppies it will be the most cost efficient way.. and since they're a dime a dozen, I won't feel bad if they all die.

So here it is... a 5 gallon tank. I want to put as many guppies in there as humanly possible. If it requires 500 guppies, I'm still game.

How long will that many live for in a 5 gal. tank? What kind of food should I give them? How often? What sort of lighting do I need?

I heard guppies are troopers, so I don't expect to do much to maintain the tank, I figure changing the water out once it gets concenctrated with feces maybe like once or twice a month.

So help me out here. TIA.

Don’t bother, here is your conclusion:

due to overcrowding, which caused excess waste that the filter couldn't remove, all fish died within a month.

save the cost, and the fish, and don't do it. Plus, the guppies you are thinking about (feeder guppies) dont' have a life span long enough for you to come up with any conclusive evidence anyways.

Well I'm a true believer of learning by my own mistakes. Plus, I didn't ask for financial advice here.
Thanks though... I suppose I shouldn't use guppies then?

What's the next best fish that can live for a while and live in a crowded environment with mal-nurishment and infrequent maintenance?

Putting an end to this line of questioning, because I see this is trolling. Seems that was brought up in another thread of yours...
