AC 300 to large for 30 gal. setup

As the subject suggests. I'm thinking of replacing a Penguin 170 bio-wheel that seems to require constant filter changes with a AC 300. If the AC 300 is to large I was thinking of using a AC 200.

At this point in time I use a UG filter with a penguin 660 powerhead in conjunction with the bio-wheel.

I want to replace both after the AC 200 or 300 has a chance to develope properly.

So AC 200 or 300 that is the question. Any other suggestions would be more than welcome.

After using different key word searches I think that the AC 300 HOB filter will suit my needs.

All you need for a 30g tank is a AC 300, that will do very well. I know someone who has a 300 on a 30g tank and its great.

I have a AC 300 on my 29G and it works great. I clean out the sponge filter and replace the carbon every month, with a two week difference in between them. I also have used Amrid packs and they have worked. When I've exhausted my supply of carbon packs I'll switch to two filters. A lot of threads on here state that two filters are better.

I have an AC300 on my tank. It does a great job. All I use in mine is 2 sponges. I personally believe that you can not have to much filtration.:)

Just a quick thanks for the help. I was torn between the AC 200 and AC 300 to replace what Marineland said was a defective Penguin 170 that I bought less than a week ago and which they were willing to send me some parts to try and fix. I really did not want to play the let's see if this fixes your problem game so I returned the Penguin and bought the recommended AC 300.

All I can say is wow. Very nice filter. Hope it continues to impress me in the months/years ahead.

I have a 29 gal, for filtration I have a Penguin 170 and it works fine, I guess other people have different opinions. I don't buy AC's to flimsy and its clear so if there's any light the filter will start to grow algea on the inside..
