View Full Version : Aquascaping is hard!! Part 2

Ok- after a backbreaking day that included one wracked back, a blown elbow, and 20+ blows with a sledgehammer I have rescaped my tank.
It only took a million trips up and down a stepladder carrying tremendously heavy rocks. Anyone ever rig an engine lift to do this crap? Am I the only one skipping a gym day after aquascaping? Am I that big a wimp?
At any rate- please tell me it looks better?

Yes, better. [he cringes, worrying about being slapped] Could you open up the pile on the left a little. It looks a bit dense to me.

I like your rock, but yea I'd arrange some more crevices and caves on the left.

It does look dense.
I can't get a camera in the right angle, but there is considerable swimming space between the two bottom pieces- I can fit my hand in between with room to spare. But I'll play around with it a bit the next time I "go in" so it is visually more open.
And I can't slap you, Dave- I can barely raise my arm.

I like it very much and the sledgehammer had no affect on my opinion. If your happy, we're happy.

On the theory that late news is better than no news:
I like the new better than the old, but I'm a fan of open water between chunks'o'reef, so mine may be a prejudiced opinion.

I've rearranged it again anyway- when I've recovered use of my arm I'll take a photo :D

I'm about to start aquascaping in a week or two ... tell me, are all the rocks free standing, or are some leaning against the glass ?
It does look much better now though :)

Everything pictured above was freestanding.
Now I have a couple leaning on the glass.
I picture my aquarium as a pristine, very clean environment with nary a speck of algae on the glass. I figure I'll get over this after I scrape the walls a few times, so am not worrying as much about rock on glass.
I think I am a lazy perfectionist!

All your rock has such great color , all I can find here in Philly has some color but not half that much. Did it come that way or did it develop color over time? The rock I have seems to be getting green in spots

My rock is from Tampa Bay Saltwater (http://www.tampabaysaltwater.com/)- all aquacultured and shipped in water to preserve the life.
That's really pretty ! I can really tell you put a lot of work into your rock set up. I end up moving mine around about once a month lol. Real nice though I'm also going to order some rock from them will let you all know how it looks. If we keep this up wonder if they'll give us a group rate
:D
