It will be an interesting cross, an Albino Red Melon and a Mercury. Mom, the mercury had to be removed do to bad behaviour. I am looking forward to raising these F1's and, more importantly, seeing what their offspring will be like (F2's).

Yeah that is quite the cross. If you want more mercurys you could take one of these young ones when they get older, a male, and mate it with your female. Or vise verso with the male.

This is a picture of mom. Unfortunetly she is in the time-out tank that has that older galss with a green tint to it, as a result it doesn't photgraph well.

Usually, when you cross a pigeon blood type discus with a blue discus you get lots of peppering in the fry. I hope you grow out a few to 4 inches in size and post some photos of them. It will be interesting to see how these fry turn out.

Both of these fish have pigeon blood genes, the exception is the male is also an albino. But when you consider the offspring between an albino and a non albino, you have to treat the albino as a non-albino. In this case that would be a red melon (PB based) x a mercury(also pb based).

The mercury strain is not the same as say a blue diamond or blue cobalt, the mercury is a pigeon blood.

Awesome! I love love love baby fishies! One of my new discus just spawned today too.. tho there will be no babies, the fish she hangs out with all the time showed no interest in fertilizing them.. it's still pretty darn exciting! =)

How many water changes do you do a day?

How many water changes do you do a day?

Per tank? A minimum of one per day of at least 80%

SubRosa

It shows in the growth rate you're getting. Nice work!

Another recent spawn, got these last thursday from Kenny over at Simply, second generation tank raised wilds (Curipera's). Their base color is actually a very brilliant red, but is lost in the photo. Already down to business. Sorry for the bad pictures, they never made it out of my older QT tank (has green tinted glass)

And an update to the progress of the fish in the title:

176734The orange spotted are from the ARM x mercury cross, the turqs from an Alenquer/red turq cross. The ARM x mercury juvies are nearing 3" with some of them surpassing that mark.
