I have ghost shrimp in my 5 gallon. they are great little guys, they make the tank look realistic with all the little guys moving on the ground all the time. also my tank has been really clean, its the cleanest of all my tanks!!

I just purchased some ghost shrimp (Cols. OH) - today.....cost 1 dozen for $2.00
FYI - the store did not have the shrimp in a tank...they had them in the back, selling them as feeder fish, lucky enough I just asked about them....

I buy them for 1 dozen for like $1.10 or something weird like that. They do a great job of cleaning, but you should be aware of two things:
1. If you feed your fish bloodworms or anything like that, the ghost shrimp are very fast, and are happy to grab the bloodworms away from the fish
2. You need to have a lid on the tank, because they like to do this weird thing where they skim the top of the water upside down, and the can flip themselves out of the water pretty easily.

At the petsmart here they sell for .30 a piece. I'm about to go to a local tackle shop where they sell grass shrimp as bait. $3.00 will get you about 200 live shrimp. I'm gonna set them in a different tank for a while before introducing them to my other tanks.

I buy them as feeders, 10 for $1.
But it looks like I may have also gotten a surprise or two in one batch , as per my thread earlier today:

Went by the tackle shop. Most of the shrimp are around an inch long and a large number of them are pregnant. Now I have a ton of shrimp, to many in fact for just me. I'm gonna give some away to some friends with tanks. No more going to the fish stores for shrimp.
Can I ask if anyone knows a chain that carries ghost shrimp in Canada? I can get them from my LFS but they cost about a buck a piece, if that's how I have to get them I would, but, I'm cheap and would like to spend less money if I could.

i heard petcetera sometimes does.
But not ever when i'm there (once in a while).
apparently they're only $.50 a peice.
Anywhere else they are around $3.00/one shrimp (or $2.50 if you buy 12 or more).
Where do you get yours for $1 for one?
Thanks for the info spartan, I live in the Okanagan, so next time I go to Kelowna I'll check out petcetra. Were do I get my shrimp for one dollar? Form a local store that I used to work for. The owner is a good friend and that's what he sells them to me for. but they are generally priced at about $3-$4. He gives me good deals on almost everything because I spend so much money there. (I'm actually geting a complete co2 injection system for $200, it's basically the price to him)
i had some but they all died....
fiddler crabs are good too
i still have 2 of those!
