I recently saw a fish in my lfs that was being sold as a lion eel.
There is no information that I can find on this fish, so far. It was
about 3-4" long, the color was a silver/white with electric blue
patches on it's sides, and had two very thin (horsehair-like) fins that went from it's head to it's tail or longer. Does anyone have any information or 'real names' or websites that may help me identify this beautiful 'wormfish' looking specimen?
 
Sounds like maybe a Live Bearing Brotula. Try looking these guys up and see if that compares at all. Those are the only fish I can think of off hand that has the dorsal and anal fins that run the entire length of the body. If it is a Brutula they are VERY hard to care for and EXTREMELY shy. If not then can you identify it an more clear or get a pic of it? Like what does it resemble or stuff like that. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.

these are definately not Brutula- the long hair-like 'fins' are not attached, but there is a complete dorsal fin that extends the whole length from head to tail.
the body shape is more like the wolf eel, which is not a true eel, so I don't know if this is an eel or simply called an eel because of it's body shape. the mouth resembles a muskalunge(sp.?), and the head itself looks similar to the Chinese dragon we see in parades and Chinese festivals (kinda-sorta)

no, this fish is not an engineer gobie or striped catfish. these are black and white striped, while the 'lion eel' is a pearly white base color with electric blue spots in two rows(dorsal longitude/ventral longitude) along the length of it's body. it is also a JUMPER! i purchased one, and it swam with it's head out of the water and 'knew' how to get out through the eggcrate on top of my 40BR. i didn't get a chance to photograph it, as it went linoleum surfing overnight and was dead stiff by morning. i asked the lfs to question his supplier for any info he had-Latin name, other common names, location of collection, etc-will keep you posted on any info i acquire. Thanks-
