I'm hoping to keep some tankmates with my jaguars, but I'm not sure what can be kept. The jags are in quarantine atm and are about 2-3" in size.

I'm looking to keep 2 plecos and some clown loaches for the long term. One pleco is at least 8", and another is about 4" and growing rapidly. One clown is 5-6", while 2 new ones are about 2-3" and growing quickly due to a high protein diet. Can you keep loaches with Jaguars or are they just fish food?

Also, I have 3 male convicts (about 5") and a pair (no spawn yet)of JD's that I was thinking about keeping for a while. The JD's are 8" & 6", respectively. The male JD is pretty calm, but passively dominates the tank.

One more thing, the tank is heavily planted (vals, swords, anubias, crypts). No cichlid has ever bothered these plants (they hate stem plants). Are the jags likely to destroy them? There is a large open space, and 2 very large pieces of driftwood. I may add some additional rockwork.

The tank is a 100g. Ultimately, I want a pair of Jags. If and when I get a pair, everything else goes! I may also upgrade to a larger tank if needed in the long term. I have tons of mechanical and biological filtration.

Any input would be appreciated!

Possible Jag tankmates all depends on the temperament of your Jag and how big the tank is.

My large Jaguar, Akasha, lives mostly by herself(because she is a monster 14"!) except for a couple of pictus catfish that will have to be rehomed because she keeps them in the corner and they don't get to go out much. Poor things. Before that, she had a couple of small bristlenose plecos that forever hid in the driftwood. When I removed her from the tank with the bristlenoses, those little guys finally came out and I saw them more in the next few hours than I had in the two whole years they lived with her!
With Akasha, I definitely would not have a planted tank. She digs like crazy and rips everything up. She even moves the smaller pieces of wood around.

My other Jag, Pele, has tankmates although I'm not sure for how much longer. She's just now starting to show some minor aggression to my pike cichlid. Pele lives in my 210 with a midas, blackbelt, pike, red devil (or gold flowerhorn, not sure which it is yet), 2 albino tinfoil barbs & a 3 beacon pleco. When she lived with my two oscars, she was also a prolific digger and plant uprooter.
