I have a 55 and a 10 gal and I am not sure how many GPH I would need for each tank, I was going to put 1 in the 10 and 2 in the 55. I also have 2 Whisper 10-40's on the 55 and 1 5-15 on the 10. Any help is greatly appreciated.

It depends on the fish you want to keep. If you have angelfish you don't want to create a whole lot of current, but if you have plecos you'd be fine with 1200gph in that 55, probably a little overkill, but I've done it :) more for current than filtration though.

I would just base it on that, because no matter what you do with the powerheads it's more filtration than air pumps in undergravel filters, so it's probably going to be enough to get you by.

One of the advantages (if you don't want massive current) of a RFUG is that they don't have a large "felt" effect on tank water current. In other words, you can turn over a hig GPH through a reverse flow UGF and not wear out your fish. I usually turn over my tank volume 6-10 times an hour through a RFUG. I also run a power filter in conjunction with them. If you are not planning to run your powerheads revers, you should look into it. It is IMO a far better way to run a UGF.
