This last one's quality seems to be messed up...but I used a piece of pinkish red construction paper over a light near it. It looked so cool in person.

Congratulations Leopardess.....it's a beauty. I haven't anticipated anything quite so much since my first born was........
well........born!!
I feel like bringing a disk and playing Pomp and Circumstance for you. Tell me something. I have seen a bunch of them but never took the time to check. Does it have any scent to it?

By the way, I've been wanting to tell you your tanks look really terrific. A job well done.

That's a beautiful flower!

Does the tank have an open top? That is definitely a major advantage of open tops, getting nice flowers. Do plants need to be out of the water to flower usually?

Len - I'm so glad you asked about the scent. I hadn't had the thought to check! I've been staring at it, mesmerized lol. Yes, it does have a pleasantly sweet scent, kind of like sugar:) Thanks for the compliments about the tanks, too. I've been thinking they need work though and am going to be redoing them soon. The 55g is just too messy. As for birth announcements, all my relatives got an email last night with its pics hehe. Ohl whats that I hear? Pomp and circumstance.....:D

Captain - Yes and no to the open top tank thing. Its actually an enclosed hood, but the lights are about 1.5 feet off the water, which leaves all that space to grow things and it keeps the humidity up. Look at the attachment. Its a pic from early November when I planted it. That gold line across it is a big piano hinge. That part flips open and clips to stay open with some eye hooks.

750t - I can sympathize. My snails are going to town on its poor leaves that are actually under the water. I'm NOT happy about that one bit.

Thanks again guys, I had to share my excitement with SOMEBODY. No one else understands that I've been waiting for this thing to flower ever since it started getting really big. THEN, when I saw the bud underwater...almost had a heart attack!

Speaking of babies lol. I just looked at that attachment..and that tiny red plant in the front is this lotus:D

Yes, I thought of the scent because my Barclay Longifolia throws flowers all the time and they stink(IMO). Not exactly carnations!!

I'm also going to be the proud Poppa of my first Anubia flower. I've always been jealous of people who have like one or two Anubia and get flowers. I've had more than a dozen for years and never got a flower.........until now.
Isn't it neat to see that bud coming up?!!?

When yours is at it's peak, maybe you could dry it and press it. I don't know whether that would work with aquatic plants though.

Try to enlarge your picture a bit. It's hard to see the detail cause, at least on my computer, it came out really small.

Oh that is awesome len. Take pics! I've not had any anubias flowers, but I only have one plant. They're so pretty too!:D

I've only had my sword flower, this lotus, and if i recall, my hydrocotyle flowered.

Ah, but I can see it all the time;) I've just left the top clipped up since it started lol.

No, no high lights. I've just got 4 40w NO flourescents:)
 
I was just reviewing one of my planted aquarium books and read that the success of flowering plants (or better said as...getting flowering plants to flower) often depends on the availability of phosphorous in the water. Just food for thought...I think Len was ttalking about never getting his anubias varieties to flower. BTW, the flower is quite beautiful, congratulations.
