arrowana size

i have a 3inch silver arrowana in a 8*2*3 tank although he is so small i can hardly find him in the tank at the moment will he just grow to the size of the tank (like some fish do) or will he outgrow this tank ?. dont wanna have to give him up in a few years because he is too big.

apologies yes thats the size (weird size i know but it fits my alcove in the front room, hence why i cant go bigger)

not sure on gallons though im afraid as it was custom built never gotten round to working out the math
 
Seems like a fairly large tank. There max size is listed at 47", and he/she will get to be around there I'm sure, especially in your tank. I've been trying to raise a few babies. All of them still have their sacs when I get them. They measure at about 1"-1.25" long. I've only been successful with one because they are so fragile and I have to work at getting them to eat on their own without the sac. That one is now about 1.5" long and doing great. He loves little minnows and frozen meats as long as they float. The funny thing is that one night he lost his sac completely. Either he ripped it off some how or one of his tank mates took it, 'cause it does look like food to other fish. What's amazing is that I was still able to keep him alive and teach him to eat. They are beautiful creatures...one day I hope my little guy hangs with the bad boys and breaks over 40" long ;)...
 
That's quite a tank. 360 gallons from those dimensions. Is it 3 high or deep? If it's 3 deep and 2 high, you'll probably be able to keep him in there for at least his first 10-15 years. Probably his whole life. If it's 3 high and 2 deep, you may have an issue in about 5-10 years when it will be hard for him to turn. A 3 foot turn area is fine. That's quite a setup for such a small guy.

I have mine in a 150. He's 22 inches now. My tank is 30 high and 24 deep. He turns okay now, but about 1-2 more years and he will need a larger tank.

What kind of filtration are you planning to run with it?
 
i will get hold of a digital camera and take a photie (its in a custom black ash cabinet coz my m8 is a joiner :)

it is 2ft wide and 3 ft high so may be a little small:O maybe ill just have to move to a bigger house when he gets larger

1tankneverenuff sounds like you have had an interesting time with your fish , still glad one is fit and healthy now.

i got mine just after egg sack had gone (dunno if it dissapeared like yours) he will accept anything flake,chilid pellets, bloodworm,brineshrimp, algae wafers (for the plec if he gets a chance) fresh fish , meat infact anything put in the tank seems to end up in his mouth (when he gets older i better watch out) the only problem is he only eats the food when it is sinking never off the surface and never when its more than 5 inches down only in the area between which can lead to a lot of waste in the tank, glad my external is up to the job.

I dont think you will have any problem. Like travelinamn said, the 2 ft turn area is smaller than the ideal length, but I think it is irrelevant here. The silvers are good turners anyway ;)
 
I almost bought a tank today, 2' High X 2' wide X 8' long, with stand, 2 canister filters, 1 back mount filter, and a 2' 6" arrowana for $500. I went home to measure my living room, to see if I had enough room for the tank and someone bought the tank before I got back! Awsome tank, but I got HOSED on it!
