I have decided, against my original plan of Angels.

But Cichlids really do strike my fancy.

I will probably be removing the Betta fish already into their own 1 gallon tanks because they are sometimes bickering and I don't want any damage done.

But the ten would look barren with nothing in it.

What kind of a cichlid would do well in a ten gallon??????

any apistos would go well. I have managed a breeding pair of either convicts or firemoulths. The other Cryptheros species will work even beter than the cons. No more that a Pair of the Cryptheros or Thorichthys but the apistos could be a half dozen.

You can also look into three striped dwarf cichlids. I don't know too much about them, but they live in pairs and don't require lots of space.

Rams, Apistos, Kribs and all other dwarf cichlids < 3" can do well in smaller tanks.

you could turn it into a shell dweller tank?

Ten is really small for cichlids.... and a pair of one would be pretty much all you could do. Kribs or rams or cockatoo cichlids, and you'd have to clutter up the tank a lot to provide lots of terrettory markers.

I would suggest some tangynikan shell dwellers for the tank, as valerie said. You could get a small colonoy of 3-4 that would do well if you provided them with lots of rocks and caves and shells.

But with reading your other post you appear to have some fungusy stuff and high ammonia and nitrites that you will have to deal with before getting any other fish into the tank.

Well, I would leave the kribs out, as a just in case precaution. A trio (1m/2f) of Apistogramma would do allright with perhaps some dithers like a smallish shoal of neons or glowlights (5 fish, perhaps).

The best option would be a m/f pair of rams and 6 small tetras for dithers. Rams can be on the touchy side though:rolleyes: .

A smaller species of Tanganyikan shell dwellers might work as well (a trio, of course).

I have 2 rams and a yellow banded shrimp in my 10 gallon.....I also have live plants and a couple of small drft wood pieces, everyone seems to like it. I originally started that tank as a quarantine but couldn't "not have anything in it"..... so I left the 5 for that :D
