Java Fern plantlets

This may be a stupid question, but how do you remove new Java ferns from the parent plant? Do you pull the whole leaf off? Just tear off the section the new plant is on? Also how big should the babies be before you separate them? My Java ferns look rather, but they are producing plantlets each. I'm setting up a new tank that's actually going to be designed for plants from the beginning rather than just having them shoved in later and I'd like to move some of the plantlets to the new tank.

They'll fall off on their own eventually but you can just pull them off too. It usually doesn't tear the leaf too much. The brown fuzzy part is roots so wait until you see a half inch or so of root I'd say.
