i don't own a reef aquarium, but i read alot about moon light being benificial to the spawning of corals. i was thinking a cheap alternative would be one of those indiglo night lights. but i could be wrong..(you probably gotta have a specified spectrum of light)
just a thought for you reef keepers.

I think the problem with those is like you said the spectrium of light as moon light almost looks like a black light or mostly the blues?

I think a lot of the moon lights being sold are just white LEDs. Doesnt get much cheaper than that, some LEDs, resistors, and an ac/dc converter. If I get some spare time maybe I'll give it a shot and let everyone know how it works.

Thats all most of them are frosty. Also the spectrum doesnt really matter it seems to be more the intensity and actually simulating a moon phase. if you leave them on all night every night this seems to hve no affect. People on reef central seem to get good results using both commercials moon lights as well as things such as cold cathodes and blue rope light.
