I've got a 30" tank, and in it, a 7" clown knife, 4 assorted 3" barbs and 2 2" suckers, now the barbs are being adopted by my cousin and now I'm wondering, what would make a good tank mate for a clown knife?

I've been suggested Siamese Tiger Fish, but they're considered a protected speciece here and an arowana, but they're just too bloody expensive.

P.S. I live in Thailand so freshwater tropical fishes here are really cheap, I got the clown knife for US$0.25(was about 75cents first but since it was their last one they gave it to me for a lower price), the barbs for US$0.50 each and 10 cents for each of the suckers

now, I'm thinking of getting a blackghost to go with the clownknife. what do you think?

Well, I hate to tell you, but your clown knife will grow longer than your tank. They can get 36''+, Datnoids (Tigerfish) grow 12-18'' so are also too large. Datnoids need a minimum of 75-80 USg, while Clowns have a minimum of like 200 USg. Black ghosts also get too large.

Personally, I would take your clown back unless you are planning on a much larger tank in the near future. A good exotic looking fish for a tank your size would be an African Butterfly fish or something along those lines.

yea, I know, I'm saving up for a 46->60 inch tank but if I can remember, I thought clown knives rarely grow over 20" in an aquarium, any way, if it gets too big, I have an 8 feet by 2 feet pond, which currently filled with feeder guppies I can chuck it in to, and if worse comes to worse, I can put it back in to it's natural habitat, (it's a wild fish, the store owner told me) heh, that's the beauty of keeping tropical fishes in the tropics

edit: The shops doesn't take back fishes, it's in a market.
