I am trying to decide on a stocking plan for a new 29 gal. tank and have been desperately trying to find information on Parasphronemus nagyi. Well, no such luck. There doesn't seem to be any info on this species anywhere! I am guessing because it is relatively new to the hobby (?)

I am hoping someone on here knows at least a little bit about these fish. All I have found so far on the net is a picture and a name. Anyone know about the requirements of P. nagyi?

WOW...that is a hard fish to find! It is apparently very new to the hobby. I found something posted about this fish in 2001 but it was only a slight mention on this fish. I guess its some form of labyrinth fish...resembling a betta?

Anyway, here is the site I was talking about with the little mention of the fish and a spectacular picture:

EDIT: I did more searching and found several sites on this fish. This fish is also called the "Licorice Gourami". Here are several more GOOD links to check out!

From what I gather, this is NOT a beginners fish...I wouldn't start with one, but please do read up on these fish! Some of the above links could prove helpful in your quest. ;)

Thanks for the reply - I was thinking I wasn't going to get a response to this one. Yes, I think it is a labrynth fish. It does look sort of like a small betta.

I looked on Below Water, which is the same place I saw the picture. I emailed them for info but the owner is away on an expedition right now.

The licorice gourami is actually a completely different fish (P. deissneri). I wonder if they would have similar requirements though?

I have searched and searched and there just doesn't seem to be any info on the net about it. I do appreciate the response, and I will continue my search for info.
Thanks!

Thanks for the excellent info, MSmith!

So it is actually a type of licorice gourami, then. Funny thing is those other pics look nothing like the pic on Below Water. I was really impressed by the purple color in that first pic, but the others look just like a licorice gourami:confused: Perhaps it is only the male or female that has the purple coloration, or it's only their breeding color?

Well, it doesn't look like I want any of these for my tank. My water conditions wouldn't jive well with them it seems. My ph is on the high side, and I don't want to constantly battle to keep my ph down.

Now I know - Thanks again:)
