Hi,

I have a 20 gallon tank with 3 cories, 2 ottos and 3 zebra danios. Im going on a vacation where I am leaving friday morning and coming back monday evening. If I feed my fish friday morning is it still too long to leave these fish without feeding? Also, what do you think of
these auto feeder things? (click the link)

In the wild fish get less food less often then in an aquarium

True, but the fish that we buy for home aquaria are not (in most cases) fish "from the wild," so to speak. It is all about habit, and just because a certain fish can go two weeks without food "in the wild," that does not mean that the same fish can go two weeks without eating in the home aquarium, particularly if it is used to eating every other day. You do make a good point, however, in that fish can generally withstand a long period without eating. Mack606, it should be fine, and from a personal standpoint the pyramids are kind of messy, since they tend to dissolve prematurely and cloud the water. That could be a result of bad product choice on my part, though.

I have left my fish (tetras, cories, danios) for up to five days w/o feeding them. I just gave them a big meal before I left everyone was fine when I returned home. I'd say yours should be fine.

~~ Hooray for my 100th post! ~~

The fish should be fine. As far as the weekend feeders and such I don't recommend them, I've had some bad luck with theese. If this is a once in a blue moon thing, I wouldn't worry. If you are gone fairly often, I would invest in an electronic feeder. Not sure what brand to reccomend because I haven't used them long enough to make a reccomendation.

the melting pyramids make a mess, ive left a fish tank of community fish down in the basement with no food for over a week they were fine, get an automatic feeder

I must agree with everyone else. Don't use those pyramid feeders. Invest in an electronic feeder. I have one that can feed twice a day, you can vary the amount of feed it delivers, and it cost less than $30.

I leave fish for 1-2 weeks with no food (except tanks with fry or sick fish). No problems at all... in fact, you'll come back to sparkling clear water and healthy, hungry fish.

I'd never use those dissolving feeders. There have been so many reports of those fouling the water, messing up water chemistry, etc.

HTH,
Jim
