difficulty to change to sump/wet dry

Hey,

I have a 29 gallon nano-reef with a fluval 204.. only been up for 3months. I'm about to buy a protien skimmer but I know that I'm going to want at least a 75gallon for a reef and that I'd be buying a big skimmer that Id use in the future on that tank. The thing is I won't have a hang on skimmer for that tank I'd want an in-sump. So... would it be hard to make a sump with a wet dry filter for my 29gallon tank I have now. It has a wooden stand I bought so I dont knwo what I could fit under there. But my other idea was if I bought a bigger tank maybe using my 29 under that for a wetdry... but then I realized the only reason I got a 29 was for an octopus which I never did... Sooo I could keep this tank set up with the sump I might build and it would be a nice place for an octo to live... I'd just have to buy PC attinic bulbs, which would be cool anyway. Any advice on making a sump... I won't be able to drill the tank, which is the only set back about not doing it.

neil.

Yes, it is possible to rig an un-drilled tank for a sump. It involves a siphon protected by two overflow boxes, one to prevent the siphon from running wild (in case of a power outage) and draining your tank, the other to prevent the siphon from breaking (also in event of a power outage) thereby letting your pump run dry when the power comes back on.

A ten gallon tank has a 10*20 (inches) footprint. Break out a ruler and see if that will fit under your stand.

Check out the Marine Products and DIY forum for a lot more info on this type of topic.

The stand is 30"x12"x18"... its made by All-Glass Aquarium. I wanted to make sure the sump/wet dry was big enough that I might be able to set it up for a 29gallon next to it as well... But I'll just post it in the DIY section, I think... thanks. Or... maybe making a big wet dry/ sump for a 75 gallon, which might give me motivation to get a 75... and then use that bigger filter for both tanks.

continuous siphon overflow

would this work??? It would appear that once the water got below the one lip that hangs in the tank, no water could get over the edge to cause a problem. I'd only have to worry about what I do from there in the stand and a return pump?
