We have been cycling a 28 gallon bowfront for the past two weeks. We are having a problem we have never had with the other 4 tanks we have cycled. Keeping in mind we used Bio Spira, our amonia started rising a week ago, two days later we were showing signs of nitrites, then the next day, ammonia still climbing, nitries, none, now the last two days the ammonia is off the scale, never seen it so dark, and still no nitrites. We are removing the fish (two small firemouths) as I type, but has anyone had this problem that the nitrites appear, and then disappear all together. What can we do other than start all over? As I said we have cycled 4 other tanks, and each was finished within a week using the Bio Spira. HELP

I am surprised. Biospira shoudl be able to cycle a tank within 24 hours. Did you add the full odes of biospira and add the fish within a 24 hour period? If not then the good bacteria may have died off before they got a chnace to catch hold. The only thing you can do now is massive water changes if the fish are to stay in that tank.

I'd try again with fresh BioSpira. Sounds like you got a bad batch (or maybe it died on the way). Did you get it direct or from a store? Maybe the store mis-handled it & you can get your money back. Worth a try. :)
