filter question

I have an old pool filter that I could use to filter my pond (once I get the pond). Is that possible? It obviously is powerful enough for whatever size pond I have, will it work as a filter or do I need more?
Also it seems like it would be powerful enough to use the return hose up to make a waterfall for the pond. Am I correct in my assumptions?? Thanks!
 
Is it a sand filter? We used a pool sand filter on the saltwater system at the store I worked so it would probably work on your pond also. It may require frequent backflushing though if it is fine sand, not that you could not put other media in there.
