Hi,

Would a pleco be okay in a ten gallon tank with the free swimming betta fry? Will he bother them at all?
Wouldn't want him to accedentally suck em up.

thanks for any help

I fully agree with Dangerdoll, if algea is your concern, go with something smaller. Either way, what type of pleco as this greatly affects the ability to answer your question.

It's not really for alge control as of right now, it's more like I accidentally broke one of my ten gallons and he had no home.:shake: He's about 2 inches and is a Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps. Just a baby himself. I just would hate to have him hurt the fry when the time comes. Do you think he will harm any of them??

Thanks

I can't really say from personal experience but I would think there would at the very least be some casualties, the mouth of a pleco is quite big, even at 2 inches. I don't really know about betta fry either so again, this is just a guess.

well I don't know about betta fry, but I do have a baby bristle nose in a guppy fry tank. It's probably about an inch to an inch and a half and it doesn't bother the fry. I know bettas are egg layers but you said they were free swimming, so I don't think there will be a problem. The first batch of fry I had probably about 22 and now there are at least 17 left so I don't think it was the pleco, if it were there prob. would be much less survivors. The second batch of fry I first saw 6, now there are 10, so I would think the pleco doesn't hunt them down.

thanks for all the info. i really appreciate it :D
