Got a 75 gal. with 2 40w flor. bulbs. I've noticed that the water has a "haze" to it. The chem. is pH= 6.6 Amm.=0 Nitrites=0 Nitrates= 20 and temp. 80. I did a water change on x-mas eve and its still hazy. Was actually hazy before that aswell. Why? Why is the water hazy and what can I do?Its a well kept tank with no overfeeding. My 10 gal. has the same chem. except pH and its 7.2 but thats it. Its clear as a bell. Where do I start?

Hi, and welcome to AC.

Hazy water in your tank is normal and usually is caused by dust or particulars within the water. If you have new gravel that was not rinsed, that could cause your tank to become hazy, or just stirring up the gravel while cleaning. I have had the same problem in my tanks, and I have learned that in time it will go away.

In the mean time, there are products you can buy that would reduce the hazyness of your tank like Aqua Clear. But, it seems I had to learn patience and wait for the tank to clear on its own.

All the best and I hope this helps.

I recently added a few artifical plants and thats all. I'm beginning to think its from the Geo. Jurup. digging around in the rocks but not sure. Did a filter/carbon about a week ago. Its not bad but I just want clear water. Had it before and liked it. Added Accu-clear twice and no change. Beats me.

Hook up a Vortex filter. It will get rid of that cloudy water. :)

What is a Vortex filter? Is it a replacment filter to go in place of the carbon filters or is it a separate thing all together? Where do you get them? LFS? I have 2 filter units going with 2 filters each. One picks up low and the other high.

The Vortex filters out extremely fine particles - even ick (ich), and other bacteria. It gets your water super clear! The Vortex is a separate filter, kind of like an accessory filter. You don't need to run continuously, just when needed, or after water changes is good. I bought mine from PetSmart (online). At the time they had the best price on it.
Here's a link that explains how it works....
