I bought a new 20 gallon tank today and dropped the box. The tank does not leak or anything. But the one corner of the lower black platic that goes around the bottom is cracked. Theres nothing wrong with the glass tank and its now filled and cycling but the plasic bottom corner is cracked. It this a major problem and how can I fix it? thanks

Shouldnt be a problem at all. Is it resting alright? You could get extra strength adhesive and just fix the rim- that would be good to do. Make sure the glass is okay, though. You could have hairline fractures that will worsen with time.

The glass is not damages at all and it does not leak. The pastic rim is cracked pretty good in the one corner. I checked the glass in that corner and it seems not to be effected.

It should be fine. You could try to patch it up with some epoxy if you want. Talk to a person at your local hardware store and they schould be able to provide you with something. Keep an eye on that corner though. It may start leaking down the road or it may have a very small leak that won't be noticable for a few days. When I re-sealed my 50 G it leaked but I didn't find the leak of 3 days because it took that long for a the water to pool on the floor under my stand.

I believe some folks might call that honesty since they were responsible.:D On the other hand many stores would return it to the wholesaler as damaged in shipping, which in a way it was.

Working in the retail world I can honestly say that where I work we do take back items that were abused within 30 days generally with no questions asked.

The store I was at was less helpful but would try to work something out, especially for regular customers. Some wholesalers would be more stringent than others also. Back then we did not have boxed tanks either, there is much more possibility for concealed damage. I agree with you Hound-definitely check with the store, they may very well replace without a fuss.

I think it just depends upon how big a store it was purchased at sometimes. I work at a large chain retailer and I've seen bicycles that had been run over by cars returned and tossed into trash compactors in the back. Basic thinking is keep them happy and they won't realize how much mark up is on food items and clothing.

I commend your honesty and concern as you may have caused the problem but you can check on a return if it looks like it could be a problem. I would be concerned thoguh that the trim rim piece could break with the stress over time because of the weight.
