The LFS told me it was a "Sunset Chromis" but I can't find any reference to that fish on the fish websites (liveaquaria.com) or google. Anyone know the real name of this little guy? He's really cute, and a lot more vivid in color than my picture suggests. He and my cleaner wrasse seem to get along well.

It looks very nice. But you should never buy a fish that you do not know the indentity of or that you know nothing about. Its always better to research a certain fish that you want before you get it.

As for the identity of that fish, it is definantly some sort of chromis or possibly a damsel, but I still agree that it is a chromis.

EDIT: After looking through one of my books, I found that there are a few fish that fit that identity pretty close.
Pomacentrus pikei looks the most like it to me.

Thanks. I do agree about researching the fish, but it seems like the chromis family has the same description for every fish. Minimum 30 gallons, usually passive, may become up to 2" in length, etc...

Hi corn picker, i have the same fish in my 55 gallon tank. From what i was told it is a yellow tail damnsel and at least for me it is very aggressive. I have him with two clarkiis and a royal gramma, during feeding time the clarkiis and yellowtail have some issues. Good luck hope you find the true answer.
