GFCI products?

Amazon has a few heavy-duty GFCI power outlets that you can plug into the wall. I have the small Coleman one -- pretty nice, but painfully expensive. I use it as a go-between for my timed power strip. The $25 Alert Stamping one looks like a better deal, and there may be something cheaper out there, but I haven't found it. Here's the link:

I'm not sure about power strips per se but GFCI' are available as add on cords, we used these when I worked construction, Any major hardware should have them. They are expensive, for me it would make far more sense to replace my wall outlet with a GFCI outlet, and be done with it for years and years.

TPIRman, thanks for the link. I didn't know what exactly to look for before seeing that.

daveedka, is there a life-expectancy to such an add-on cord? The portability appeals to me, but there does seem to be at least a 10$ difference between an add-on and a GFCI receptacle. One for each tank (4), and the savings is readily evident.

Have you considered a GFCI circuit breaker? They're not terribly expensive, especially compared to purchasing multiple GFCI powerstrips or outlets. Also, be sure to not shop for the lowest price GFCI outlet you can find. I purchased several of the less expensive outlets and found they tripped without provocation. Not a big deal if you're using blow dryer, but it can be a problem if it kicks off (unnecessarily) and leaves your tank without filtration...

I really don't know what the life expectancy would be, we used these on construction sites and basically beat the h@@l out of them every day, they lasted 4-6 months, but then the crew I was on could destroy an anvil in less than 4 months. I would imagine that the life expectancy would be as good as any extension cord or GFCI outlet in this application in other words life expectancy would not be a decideing Factor for me.

Walmart!

Walmart sells a GFI/surge protector/power strip for $12. Aquarium safe, shows a tank on the wrapper. They also have a plug in GFI for about $10, if you are not able to change out the wall receptical for a GFI.

The ones at the hardware store are really expensive maybe $30 or more.
