here's my question. I am taking care of a 125 gallon reef tank - it has plenty of LR, a few polyps, and 4 fish (y. tang, clown, barred goby, 12 line wrasse). It doesn't really have any substrate other than 1"+ pieces of LR rumble which make it really annoying to clean.

I am thinking about adding sand right over the rumble to make a nice sand bed and brighten it up a little.

Would it be possible to add sand to the tank without breaking it down and/or taking the live stock out? (I know I'll have to rinse the dust off the sand before it goes in the tank)

Also I was thinking of using filter sand - the stuff you put in the big jacuzzi rapid sand pool filters. Wanted to get some opinions on that as well.

thanks for your help

Sharyl C ,

Look at this web site you can put it over your rubble with out breaking it down. http://www.garf.org/ Best looking stuff i have ever seen. Will cloud tank for a day or two but well worth it i put it over both of my tanks aragonite. Great purple color and all different size chunks as well as sand. I would tank out some big peices you already have so they don't get buried they are great for putting propogated corals on. You will get a plug or two free.
