Went to an lfs that is probablly the closest one to me, I try to avoid that one sometimes cuz the whacky lady in there . The first time I seen her there she told me she is just learning about SW tanks but she could tell me everything I was doing was all wrong.

But anyway I try to keep my Salinity around 1.024, but this lady tells me that is way too high.

Isn't that what it says in most books & web sites ?
Maybe I'm wrong ?

Oh, she thought I was nuts when I said I've heard that the live rock & sand are best fitration.
She also gave me hell about my 15 gal Cichlid tank. But I'll post that in proper forum. I know 15 gal is small but that wasn't her concern.

Sorry , didn't notice BuGGaPimp5.0 post on what to keep SG @ till after i posted this.

Any thoughts ?

I'm curious...what did she tell you your SG should be? 1.024-1.025 is fine.

If she's just now learning about marine tanks, how is she able to tell you that everything you're doing is wrong?

Just a note--many LFS will say that anything over 1.023 is too high. Stores often keep their FO setups much lower, around 1.018 to help prevent parasites, since the bugs die at low sg's. Since many employees don't know why their store tanks are maintained this way, they just operate on the assumption that it's the right (and only) way to keep a tank. A fine display of ignorance, but not really shocking.

Yep--stable is best. If this is a reef, it shouldn't go lower than about 1.023 IMO--the corals and inverts are very sensitive to sg. Keeping it stable, and one reading, is your goal.
