Im looking for one nasty fish. Something that is going to challenge me all the time and have alot of personality. I have been searching a ton on the net and have narrowed it down to these choices. If you where going to set up a solitary tank and just have one aggresive cichlid what one would go get? Feel free to post your thoughts on any of these fish.

BTW- the reason I am looking for an aggresive monster is that I have done the semi peacful cichlid tank and now I want something really impresive.

Thanks Jeff

I voted for the Haiti cichlid. Remember the shot that was put up from ACA 2002? Increadible fish.

I disagree, the jag is one monster beast, once I get my 125 gallon I'm gonna buy one of those monsters.

my LPS has a haiti on display, it is awsome, but not as agressive as the jag.

What happed to the red devil/midas. That would get my vote, blows the rest out of the water when it comes to personality and attitude.

I agree, my Midas will now try to bite you just for walking by the tank. If he's the owner of the downstairs room, why can't he vacuum once inawhile? :D
It was so funny yesterday when my husband was messing with the printer(which is near Sweetie's tank). He swam to that end of the tank and started biting! I told my husband if Sweetie's mouth was a knife, he was dead with 2 stabs to the back. ;)

Jaguar, but that's only because the one I had a couple years ago had an impressive pair of clearly visible fangs and an aggressive tendency towards humanoids that would get a little too curious. Little children have fled in terror run from the beast, thinking it was some over-grown goldfish at first...
"MOMMY! IT TRIED TO EEEEAAAT ME!"

Beautiful.... :D

Like these? :D

Yeah jags are awesome! I think they are extremely beautiful and when they reach about 5 inches and more they truly are a sight to behold. I have a breeding pair of jags with a breeding pair of convicts... It can get quite ugly at times but they all seem to get along pretty well and they all know their place in the tank.

You named you Midas 'Sweetie?'

Isn't that like naming a piranha 'Nibbles?'

Oooooh, that's a nice one! :D

MoJo, what kind of camera do you use to take all your wonderful photos?
Do you use flash? If so, do you have an external flash or just the internal?

The eyes of the fishes allways goes white when I use the internal flash... like this...

And the pictures gets too dark when I don't use the flash...

Yep, that's his name! He's big and pink and it was two weeks until Valentine's Day when I got him. Plus, he gives you LOTS of "kisses!" ;)

Hey mojo,
The ones that I put up to vote where just ones that I personaly might consider getting but I had not come across anything on the umbee when I was looking. I'll definately consider that as a choice.
Feel free to add it to the poll if you want.
You can also add the RD although I wont be getting one of those.

Edit: Now I know why I didnt want an umbee. I dont plan on getting a tank big enough to house a 2 foot fish. You would have to have a 180 or more for something that size right?

Champsochromis caeruleus. In a big tank w/ a group of females ... it would be awesome.

I agree that the Haiti fish has a great personality. However, the jaguar also has a great personality and is a very aggresive fish.

I guess for whatever reason the midas cichlid isn't 1 of the top 5.

I have to say the Jag becaues I"m on my second pair and I know what they can do to your fingers when cleaning the tank during spawning time. Mine are somewhat used to me now, only nudging at my hand when I get to close to the nest, but when my wife cleans the tanks when I'm offshore, its different. Probably because I clean them most of the time.

The haiti aka the Black Nasty has my vote, the most aggresive fish I ever had was the American Cichlid (Aequidens rivulatus ) aka the Grn Terror, he killed a lot of fish in my tank

Yeah the umbee has plenty of personality and if we are not talking about fish on the list , My choice is the almighty Dovii !!!! But on the list I have to go with the Tri-mac nothing comes close for good colour and personality. I had a haiti Aka black nasty and It was a bit of a scardy cat, it would run for cover whenever someone had a go at him(my midas).
