I have been looking at this goby for a week now in my LFS and was adoring him everyday I went in. No one bought him, so after a week I decided to buy him. No one working at the LFS has ever seen one, but said he had been eating live brine soaked in vitamins for the last week. He ate well for me and I took him home. Well, now I can't find anything on fishbase.org called a humpheaded goby! His body looks like an eel, he's a tan and grey sort of striped color, a mad lip look on his mouth, and horns above his eyes like a little devil. He is adorable, but I want to know WHAT he is. Anyone have any ideas? Also he is about 3-4 inches long. Any info would be great! Thanks

It doesn't sound like either gbolton but it may be. I was first thinking the Engineer Goby but they don't have the horns. Could it be a type of Blenny? Is there any way you can post a picture or give a better description of what it looks like, patterns it has, length and what kind of habits it has (does it lay on the bottom or stay sedentary in the water column or what. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck. I honestly would have asked this prior to buying the fish but that is just me. Anyway, good luck.

Mono,

I guess when I was thinking striped I was thinking vertical ie that why I said bar. If it was horizontal it could be a engineer but the horn like apendages are what throw me. Guess we need to just have a better description or a pic would be great.

ok, some more info on him....well he has the face of a mobster that is pis*ed off and he has an eel like body with 2 horns above each eye and 2 side fins to swim and 2 leg lik fins under him to perch on the rocks or sand, his mouth is turned down and somewhat wrinkled, his eye move back and forth like a human, he looks like a cross between and eel and a goby, I did ask at the LFS buy the way and they had never seen one like I saidm but he ate in the store today and now I offered him vitamin soaked brine 2 times and he won't eat maybe just scared, but I fell in love with him and the LFS told me no one wanted him because no one has ever seen him nor did anyone know how to care for him. Do blennies have turned down human like mouths? If so his body is more that of a blenny, but this fish has no scales either just like an eel, he's just plain weird, but beautiful, digital no longer works so this is only info until I take pic and scan it in a few days, but I would like to know in the meantime wat he is! Thanks

ok, found it. They had goby on his tank. Humpheaded goby it said! HA! It's a Hump-Headed Blenny. Ok found it! Mine is so much more awesome than even the fishbase.org pics. Now I have to post his pic in the next few days! Mine is AWESOME! :) I'm glad I now know what he is. Thanks guys for the blenny lead. I would have been looking forever!
