Hey all. I have been noticing these tiny white critters in my tank that crawl around on the glass. What are these things? They are too small to take a pic of. Up close it looks like they have an oval body with a small tail, but its real hard to tell. Anyways, just hoping someone knows what these are and if they are good or bad for the tank. Any advice on removing them if they are harmful would be great.

Sounds like pods - very good for the tank.

I have some similar creatures in my 55 gallon FO tank. They are tiny and curled up like a snail on it's side. Are these copepods too? I had an explosion in the population of these guys and they're all over the tank. If they are copepods, what eats them? I have a sand sifting star, but it rarely climbs up the glass.

Well it looks like these little critters grew some, and now I can make out their shape. They appear to be centipede like and seem to enjoy the polyps. What exactly do pods do that make them beneficial?

Their main benefits are eating and getting eaten. On the one hand, they help to break down organic debris. On the other, they serve as live, nutritious food for fish and other invertebrates.

The centipede like things sound more like bristleworms (polychaetes). They are a diverse group of annelids, and most species don't seem to be troublemakers. Most are detritivores.
