I went to the local well semi local fish store and picked up a fish that was called a 5 spot cichlid. Was wondering if anyone has herd of it and if so is there any good web sites on that fish.

thanks,
brian

"5 spot cichlid" generally refers to Hemichromis elongatus, also known as the "5 star general". They're part of the jewel cichlid family. Here's a picture from Jeff Rapp's site: http://www.tangledupincichlids.com/images/elongatus.pair.jpg

It's a riverine african so they do well at around pH 7.5. These guys are beasts - arguably one of the most aggressive and devestating cichlids for their relatively small size (only get to about 6"). I don't know if you planned on keeping it alone, but that's probably what you're going to have to do.
