This shot was taken with a feature called "slow flash". It acts more like a fill flash leaving the aperture of the camera open wider and effectively burying the shadow from the flash.

Hey, I also have an Olympus D-490. I looked in the manual and it also has the 'fill-in flash' but never tried it. I think I'm gonna go experiment.
