I am looking for neat ways to stock my new 10 gallon........I'm pretty sure I don't want livebearers or a betta.......so if you guys could just list interesting ways to stock a little 10 gallon without using livebearers that would be great! The tank has a dark bottom, will just have fake plants, black background. I was thinking maybe some gold barbs.....not sure. Suggestions would be very helpful!

Maybe you could make it brackish and put like 1 puffer in there. I think kribs would work but im not that sure. You could get some colorful schooling fish and plant it.

Maybeyou could stock it with a few white clouds and/or some tetras(like Glowlight tetras, black skirt tetras...) with a trio of Panda cory cats..... Just a few ideas, but you will altimately have to research what would be suitable for a 10 gallon and pick your own combonation. Have fun and good luck,

Lots of choices for a 10. Before discounting live bearers, have you seen anything but the common fair? There are lots of cool live bearers out there, including endler's. You could also look into killi fish--some real beauties out there.

If you want common fish, unplanted, I would go with a pair of dwarf gourami (not the neon--they get too territorial for a small tank--look for honey or sunsets), 3-4 cories, and maybe a clown or bristlenose pleco.

Or, you could go with a pair of kribs...

Or 7 neons, one drawf neon gourami, and 3-5 kuhli loaches.

Too many choices to list!

Cherry Barbs
Kribs
Panda cories

That is what I have in my 15 gallon and I highly recomend them.

It depends on how much time you are willing to invest to setup and maintain your tank.

When I decided to setup my tank I didn't want to have to use a bunch of chemicals to get the aquarium water "perfect". So a friend told me to find out the properties of my tap water and base the type of fish to get from that. In addition, I wanted to fish most appropriate for the type of water avaliable to me.

I don't know the numbers but the my tap water is fairly hard and has a ph of 7.8 with of chlorine or chloramine(can't remember).

Of, course this is open for debate. A lot of posts I've read here seem to indicate most fish are fine in any water.

I ended up going for platys and corys. Though I would have loved to stock it with other types, I am very satisfied with what I currently have. For now.

Good Luck.
