hey you guys i just wanted to know if a kalk dripper would work better than adding a calcium, bufer and alkalinity supplements and here is another newb questian i wanted to know if kalk keeps your alkalinity ph and calcium at the right levals or if i would have to add a calcium supplement. the reason i wanted to know was because the guy at my lfs told me that i should also be adding calcium to my water as well as kalk

It all depends on several variables.
First, the calcium demands of your system, and second, the amount of evaporation from your tank which determines the amount of calcium you can put in with kalk.
In my case, I don't have sps, but have LPS and softies and clams. I'm never had to use anything other than kalk.

As Ray said, it really depends on your demand. Also, if you add vinegar to the water you dissolve your kalk in, you can make it stronger (I'll dig up the link if you're interested). If you can keep Ca over 400 with kalk only, then you don't need other supplements.
I have been trying to get away with kalk only for about 6 months, but have been thwarted by the inconsistencies of the drip system. Hopefully, my new fancy valve system will allow me to control things better.

I have found that Kalk is great for maintaining levels once you get them there. But if you are at a low point you will need some other supplement to raise your levels. I just look at kalk as a maintenace chemical.
wow thanks for all that o ya i forgot to tell you at th moment i only have softies but i want to get some tridacna clams and i will probably not get any thing after that. morgunda it would be great if you could dig up those sites
