I have been using pressurized co2 on my 120g for about 3 months now. My tap water pH is about 7.8 and agen not different from that. I set my controller to 6.8 initially(brought it down slowly) and it seemed that the controller and co2 would come on every couple of hours. Makes sense, original pH high and maintained low. In any case, for the past 3 weeks or so, the ph has been staying at around 6.8/6.9 without the co2 coming on. I have been doing around 50% water change once a week. I have even increased my controller limit to 7-7.2 and it keeps coming down. I got to the point where I have to use aeration to keep the pH in line through the night. One night I forgot to put the air pump on, and the next morning all the fish were gasping for air at the top. For about 2 1/2 months nothing like that happened. I am puzzled as to what is happening.
I would appreciate any input/advice as this is driving me crazy. My water parameter from last week were:
Ph 7.2(according to dropplet test vs. probe), Amonia/nitrite 0, kH 5, gH 8, nitrate 8, phosphate 2, iron 0. I have re-calibrated the probe last week as well. It is curious that the probe shows 6.8-6.9 and the other test around 7.2. I know months ago, when I used the dropplet tester, it turned slight green, indicating hight 6. This time is blue.
I have gone 3 months without calibrating the probe and this might be the problem. Is there any way to to clean it and then recalibrate it? I have the milwaukee smc 122 controller.
Thank you.
