The guy at the fishstore said that ghost/glass/grass shrimp tend to eat your aquarium plants? Any truth to this?

I am looking for some amano shrimp, but haven't been able to find any. I was thinking about getting a couple ghost shrimp instead, but now I'm concerned about my plants. I was hoping that they would help by eating some of the detritus such as dead leaves.

I don't think ghost shrimp eat plants. I think they will probably eat dead leaves like you mentioned and overall scavenge the tank. They don't eat much algae so that leads me to believe they will not eat plants either.

As far as I know, ghost shrimp will not eat healthy plants. Although they aren't great at picking at algae like amano shrimp are, they do very well as a scavenger.

Ive heard the ghost shrimp will be eaten by other fish. Do you know if this is true?

I had a black convict that would eat 30 of them overnight :p I also am very sure other types of fish would eat them as well if they are able.

Depends on the size of fish and its temperment. I can't put them in with my rosy barbs and gouramies. I know someone that keeps small amanos with a large angelfish and dwarf cichlids.

Ghost shrimp are cheap to buy a few and try. They are usually like 10 for $2 or sometimes even less.

I have never experienced ghost shrimp eating plants. I have heard that if you have a lot of amanos and not a lot of algae that they will resort to eating plants. Sadly I don't it will ever come to that in my tanks. :shake:

In my research and experience, ghost shrimp do not eat plants.

I have some with my puffs in a VERY densely planted tank. I've never seen them even go near the plants. They hang around the java moss eating whatever they scavenge off the bottom. They're a great little cleanup crew. :)

i have a ghost shrimp and two rosy barbs about 2.5 inches long should the ghost shrimp go in that tank? :help:
