Once there was an ALl-Glass 55g who didn't have it's center brace.

Is there a way to repair/replace the brace? I'm not sure how old the aquarium is, but the lip around the top of the aquarium is made of brown plastic, if that is anything of an indicator. THe newer ones that I look at, the brace is molded as part of the upper lip piece.

Every All-Glass aquarium I have seen has a small tag under the bottom glass with a manufacture date, so perhaps your aquarium is not made by that particular company.
Also, some older style 55 gallon aquariums have much thicker glass (and weigh much more), than the modern ones.
With these things in mind. the All-Glass aquarium company does supply replacement top trim molding with the center brace built in. They are making them wider and sturdier now than they used to. Contact them directly and they can send you one. I fixed a 55 gal. a few years back, and I think they were about $8.
The repair is best done on an empty aquarium, because all remnants of the old trim and silicone sealer must be removed, and the job is messy.
My 55 gallon went for many months with a broken center brace, and it was very noticeably bowed. I was always afraid of a disaster, so I incorporated the repair job with a move to a new location, since the tank had to be totally broken down and transported to my new house.
Good luck with your tank.

i just had the brace on my 55 crack a couple of weeks ago.they gave me the option of a new tank, or they would send me a new top.i just took the new tank, gave it to my mom and bought a 90 for me.
go to the all glass site, and email them.i dealt with linda and she was great.never did get her on the phone though, but she emailed me right back

Thx for the feedback (x2). I too have been in contact with Linda and she is sending me out a new top frame. My problem was finding a lfs that would work with me. What happened to customer service! :sad

seems like in the last 2 months i've read alot of posts about their 55 top brace cracking.i can think of about 5 or 6.mabye they had a bad run, or it's just too flimsy.my light sits on the outside walls of the tank, and i'm the only one that touches the tank, and mine cracked when i was changing the water, then every change the crack got bigger.the tank i have now is a 90 by a local company, and the brace is about 3x thicker and seems alot stronger.when i took the 55 apart, i moved it to my truck, then tried wiggeling the brace, and it moved really easy, and i could have pulled it off without much force.
