Feeding Veggies

Hay all.. I have tried feeding romain lettuce and zuchinni to my tank but they ingnore it. I stuck it in a veggie clip about 1/2 way down the tank. I have tried blanching it and raw but no luck. Do you think they get used to 'tankfood' and therefore ingnore the real stuff or does it need to be on the bottom.

P.S. 2 days without feeding does wonders for water clarity.
 
What sort of fish are you trying to feed?

I feed my bottom dwellers(loaches,BN pleco) zuchini,carrots, cucumbers. And i sometiems feed my africans Zuchini or cucumber. They just sort of pick at it for a day or 2. I have also tried swiss chard,spinach and lettuce but they didn't really go for that.

ONe thing is that it may take a while for them to realizet hat that is food. It know my fish didn't eat the veggie i put in but now love them.
 
Hi, I have a small variety of africans and a synodotis. It is the cat that I am a little concerned about cause I rarely see it it. It dashes out and chews on an algea wafer and thats about it.
How do you keep the veggies weighed down?
 
SYnos don't really go for veggies and prefer meatier foods like brine shrimp and bloodworms. Try feeding them sinking shrimp pellets,carnivor pellets and brine shrimp,bloodworms. ANd try feeding the cats at night.

For the faricans and veggies I use a fork with fishing line attached to it. it stick the veggie on teh fork and lower it to the bottom.Then when the fish are finished i jsut pull it out by the fishing line.
 
Thanks Valerie, I did pick up some brine shrimp cubes but like you say he's a night time critter anyway. I did try a piece of zuchinni and the yellow labs and the johanni's went for it but the others thumbed it. I actually put a round magnet in the middle of it so I'll see if it's easy to collect it.
