Filstar XP filters and an Eheim word of Warning

Word of warning, if you're considering getting an Eheim filter, forget about the Eccos. I was dumb enough to ignore other people's suggestions and got one... Since then I've had nothing but problems with this piece of crap filter. Finally a piece of it snapped today when I was taking it apart, so it doesn't seal properly anymore (I had half a gallon of water spill onto my hardwood floor). Right now I have an old Fluval 404 running in its place. By all means, the other Eheim filters I've used were excellent in build quality... but the Eccos just don't cut the cheese.

This brings me to my main question, I've heard that the Filstar XP is an excellent filter. Since its been out for awhile now, has anyone have any comments about them? good or bad? In terms of equipment, does this thing come with a spray bar? How is their build quality? I don't want to spend another chuck of money, just to have parts of the filter snap on me a couple years down the road.

Thanks!

Yes the filter does come with a spray bar and a power head type attachment. The spray bar out put is adjustable. It is very easy to clean the filter media..like about 10 min and your back up and running.
At first there was a little fiddling with the media, hoses and the lid which caused a few whistles and air whoosh bubble rushes, all is great now and it is very quiet.

Very easy to use. I don't know of anyone who has one and doesn't like it, seriously. I just wish that the spraybar and intake/output tubes weren't made of plastic, but maybe something a little stronger. I always think I am going to snap them when I handle them somewhat roughly for whatever reason. But, you will love the filter.

Awhile ago I said, when my Fluval 404 "dies" I'll get another Filstar xP-3. I now have 3 of them. They work great, they are silent, and I did a little test when the Fluval was working and found the Filstar to "filter" the water better.
The Filstar is adjustable on the flow and has many configurations on set-up. There's also a "power nozzle" in case you don't want to set up the "spray bar"....
We have never had "priming" problems with this filter.
Oh.. the price is very nice too..

:)

Thanks for the responses.

125gJoe - How is the xP-3's media capacity compared to the Fluval 404? Since my tank is planted, I don't need a large canister... so I'll probably get a xP-1 or xP-2.

I've had my XP3 for 1 1/2 yrs or so. Love it! One word of caution, don't force the intake tube pieces or spray bar pieces together too much. The small end of one is tapered and fits into the large end of the previous one. I cracked a couple because I was worried it wasn't in far enough. Snug is good!!! Don't force it. My only complaint is my own paranoia!:D

You will have more capacity with the xP-3.
