Ok, I am having my first encouter with that nasty bug, and wouldn't you know it, it started with my Hippo Tang, go figure. On to the questions, I'm going to quarantine and treat with copper. What medicine comes highly recommended? Right now I have a 10 gallon empty tank and I have a HOT bio-whell filter and the bio wheel has been in with my bio-balls for about a month so I should have a good filter ready to go, right? I am going to have to quarantine 1-3" Hippo Tang, 1-3" Mandarin, 2- 2" Percula Clowns, 2-1" Green Chromis, and 1-1" Yellow tail Damsel. Is a 10 gal going to be big enough to handle them for 4 weeks without them killing each other? If not how big is the smallest that I'm going to be able to use. On that note, how do you go about quarantining a Mandarin, no live rock, no sand? I'm not really too concerned about the one I have because I know he will eat frozen brine but I do want to try to find a female one later on down the line to go in the tank with him. I guess I should have quarantined my darned fish in the first place. Live and learn.

Not sure on the tank size but with some PVC piping Im sure it could be done not desirabel but for short term treatment better than nothing.

On a side note you do not have to quarantine the mandarin if I remember correctly they are not susceptible to the ich parasite.

I've always had good results with Cupramine made by seachem. If used correctly it doesn't harm the biological filtration. You won't need to remove the fish unless the tank contains coral, inverts or live rock. There are reef safe alternatives, which other people on this forum have used such as garlic based treatments.
