Was wondering if there is a way to sex plecos. Mine are 17 and 14 inches, so if it's subtle, I should be able to see it.

Unfortunately, determining the sex of most of these type fish is rarely possible, short of a post-mortem dissection.

The ICOSA Ancistrinae Internet Lecture at http://www.planetcatfish.com has great detailed instructions about what to look for in differences in odontodes and general shape. Sexing common plecos is not easy. Good luck!
