alright, this has been bugging me for the longest time. WHAT are silicates? and WHY are they bad (if they are)?
I have read somewhere that there like when 3 or 4 silicon atoms fuse with an oxygen atom or something.
PLEASE HELP ME!

thanks,

also some common silicates are silica sand "yellow sand" and glass. They are in of themselves harmless it's just with the additions of other nutrients that they will cause a diatom bloom. They are easier to keep out of your tank than the other stuff.
