OK so I've got three fish in 10g quarantine with copper treatments and no fish in my display tank 55g, just some snails and hermits.

Questions:
1) On the bottle of Coppersafe it says to maintain normal filtration. Should I have carbon in the HOB filter? Currently I am running with no media. If these fish will be in there 3-4 weeks I surely need some mechanical filtration.

2) Water changes, how often and how much in the q tank? I guess I retreat the new water with the copper, right?

3) I read one thread where someone said they added raw ammonia to the display tank to maintain bacteria life. Should I do this or just over feed the crabs a little?

These may sound like really dumb questions but as a newbie I have no idea.

Thanks
Bobby

1) Your biological filtration is much more important than the mechanical or chemical filtration. I'd use a small tubing to clean out any solid wastes once a day--better than having it trapped in a sponge. For chemical--unless your biological filtration is compromised by the copper treatment, I wouldn't use any. If there's no biological filtration, then a product to bind ammonia/nitrites will help.
2) Water changes will be essential. Do as many as are needed to prevent ammonia from building up, and add medication to replace what you remove.
3) Feeding the crabs and such will provide food for a small colony of bacteria--just be careful when you add the fish, since this will represent a huge increase in bio-load. It will be tough to get around this, since allowing the main tank to spike (adding more ammonia than the bacteria can handle) will kill off your inverts.
