Anybody on this forum live in WI? If so do you know of any good places to get live rock? The only place in my city that has live rock is a Pet Supply Outlet. They have I Fiji, something or another at I think $6-7 a pound. I don't know if this is that good of a price for it but it doesn't look anything spectacular compared to some of the stuff you can get online. I don't want to order online due to the shipping. So are there any good stores around that sell good LR for good prices? Preferably closer to lakeside.

I live in Wisconsin, but I havent heard of that place. A lot of the rock that I see around here SUCKS!!!!! There is no coralline on it at all. I think they just put some rock in there with light so the stuff grows on it. But it looks like crap. I got all my liverock from my brothers 75 gallon tanks and that is primo stuff. I really dont look at liverock at the stores becuase I dont need any and its junk.

Yeah tell me about it. Yesterday, I went to the oldest 'pet/fish' store in my town, and played the 'I"m a dumbass so sucker me in roll'. Man was this guy trying to sell his stuff and was he bad at it. I walked in and asked if he had any live rock after already looking around a bit. He shows me to his sw tanks and he says... "Anything in these tanks are liverock." So I asked him... 'What kind are they, you know like where are they from?" So he kinda looks in the air abit and... is like... "Um... a... I think these are from Figi". Which they were totally not. He was selling the exact peices but dry under the tanks, and they looked kinda like somebodies art project from school. They literally looked like clay (probably not clay but it looked like it) peices that he just stuck in there to grow algae on. I don't know how he has stayed in bus. so long. He trys to sell his arowanas (sp?) which are only 6 inches long as 'large', his oscars that are 4-5 inches are labled 'super' (as in beyond large), penguin 125's are $65. Yeah, he's has the oldest pet/fish store in my city. Pretty sad.

Not from WI, but I live next door to it...

2253 Air Park Road P.O. Box 100
Rhinelander, WI 54501

Is apparently the contact address of Dr Foster & Dr Smith who run four web sites:

http://www.drsfostersmith.com/
http://www.liveaquaria.com/
http://www.etropicals.com/
http://www.PetEducation.com/

These guys seem to be among the better online resources for aquarium and saltwater supplies, so you might want to contact them and see if you can get live rock from them directly at their main location. I don't know if you can, but you asked about places in WI...

Just a thought.

I was actaully just calling around to places looking for live rock yesterday. Foster and Smith in Rhinelander said that the only stuff that they are selling out of the retail store right now was Fiji live rock, and it was 5 something per pound. $5.95 I think, not the best deal, but seeing as how the other local places (in Tomahawk and Wausau) wanted between $8 and $10, it really wasn't that bad either. But by the time you pay for shipping, you are paying that much online too.

Well I guess I'm really kinda stuck then huh. As ording anything will cost me more then if I buy local. Driving anywhere far w/o seeing any of the 'same' stock would be pretty dumb. Well thanks much for the info.
