What bottom feeders would be good for a 46 gallon tank? A fish with some personality (or fishonality) would be great.

Loaches and cories would be great, they have good personalities. Mine(yo-yo loaches and panda cories) always are moving. They are very fun to watch.
One of the bushynose catfish species would be good if you can find one. If not I'd go for corys myself.
Bristlenose plecos are not really bottom feeders the way loaches and cories are, they don't scavenge the same way. I would add one anyway because they are awesome to have and you will have some sort of algae control if any develops.
thanks for the info. I think I will get some loaches and maybe a britlenose pleco. Curious though, how big does that britlenose pleco get?
